Cruising To Bermuda
Most of the lines that provide cruise ships for Bermuda have their own independent schedules. But the combined information about all of them is provided by Marine and Ports division of Bermuda’s government, which is also available online. Though the government has been trying to encourage more air travel to the island, most visitors prefer to reach the island on a cruise ship. The local government has put a cap on the maximum number of passengers per cruise ship and the total number of passengers that can visit each year.

The local shopkeepers, storeowners and other businessmen eagerly await the arrival of Bermuda cruise ships, whose passengers provide most of their income. While traveling on a Bermuda cruise ship, one must not forget that Bermuda has very strict drug laws. To abide by law, cruise ships sailing from US to Bermuda have to have certain fixed number of cabins and staterooms available for the disabled/physically handicapped. Some cruise ships may try to ignore the law by not checking or verifying the disability of the disabled passengers.
Bermuda, The Unique Cruise Destination
The Bermuda Islands are a popular cruise destination, thanks to its location in the mid-Atlantic on the route between New York and the Caribbean. Its warm subtropical climate, historical sites, beautiful beaches and ocean waters, snorkeling, natural reefs, golf, and shopping, Bermuda offers something for everyone. Bermuda expects well over 300,000 tourists each year from cruises so you can see, the cruising industry is a major player in the economy of Bermuda. As such, island residents are very welcoming to visitors traveling to Bermuda on a cruise vacation.
To cruise to Bermuda from the United States, you have several options for departure ports. The most popular ports are New York; Cape Liberty, New Jersey; Baltimore, Maryland; Norfolk, Virginia; Charleston, South Carolina; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Boston, Massachusetts. The majority of cruises to Bermuda occur in the summer months of May, June, July and August but the cruise season lasts from April to November each year.
There are three ports of call in Bermuda. The busiest ports are St. Georges and Kings Wharf (Dockyard) located on the east and west ends of Bermuda, respectively. These two ports are deeper and can therefore accommodate today’s larger cruise ships. The City of Hamilton also has a dock but it can only accept smaller cruise ships. Once you have arrived in Bermuda, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy such as the beautiful pink sand beaches, the historic town of St. George (a World Heritage Site), wonderful shopping and restaurants in the capital city of Hamilton, and the Royal Naval Dockyard which has the Bermuda Maritime Museum.
