The Holland American Cruise Oosterdam

In 1871 Holland America Lines, Headquartered in Rotterdam Holland, providing service to the Americas and it became known as Holland America Line. In 1895 the company offered its first vacation cruise. In the 1970’s Holland America Line sold its cargo shipping division and vacations became her full time focus. In 1989 Holland America Line sold to Carnival Corporation, the largest cruise company in the world.

The balcony stateroom was really nice and has more than enough room to move around, store all the clothing etc and relax with a glass of wine as the ocean rolled by.

The shore excursions to rank right up there with some of the best shore excursions anywhere in the world. From Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos for lunch at the Hotel California. This is a very interesting drive through the desert of Baja California from the bay at Cabo on the Sea of Cortez to the Pacific Ocean, where the driver stopped because there were lots of whales to see.

Dinner was truly memorable as each party had a table for the number of people they designated. It was a buffet, but there were so many buffet tables set up that there were no lines. Waiters brought you drinks and whatever else you wanted, and then there is a show in an amphitheater.

The Holland America Zuiderdam

The Zuiderdam is a series of mid-size ships in Vista class of ships in the Holland America Line. Built in 2002 this was the first of the Vista class of ships. The four vessels in the Vista Class of ships are all representations of the four directions: Zuiderdam (south), Noordam (north), Oosterdam (east) and Westerdam (west).

When boarding this Holland America Line vessel, the first thing that you will notice is the attention to detail in the decor of the ship. The Zuiderdam’s atrium features a Waterford Crystal Seahorse which sets the mood for exquisite pieces of art to be seen throughout this elegant ship.

Staff are attentive and polite. The almost one staff member per two passengers ratio on board ship is the highest of the major cruise lines and it shows. Having a gross tonnage of only 85,000, classifies this ship as a mid-size ship, but it is certainly big on elegance, service and class.
