San Juan offers one of the most beautiful and most affordable places to take a cruise. It serves as an anchor on many Southern Caribbean cruise itineraries in addition to a turnaround port for many ships. San Juan serves as the urban hub of Puerto Rico. San Juan is famous for Senor Frogs, a bar with an unmistakably American feel. San Juan offers tastes of many other cultures as well, including Spanish, Italian and South American. A cruise to San Juan is the cheapest way to experience many cultures of the world!

The Old San Juan, for most travelers is the most exciting part of cruising to San Juan. Most large cruise ships dock right in the heart of Old San Juan, dropping off their passengers into a world that dates back to the 16th century. The whole city has been exquisitely preserved. Visitors can meander down the original cobblestone streets to explore old forts, cobblestone, antique shops and art galleries where local artists display their work.

One of the first stops for many cruisers who get the chance to disembark in San Juan is the El Morro fort, which dates all the way back to 1539. Another popular tourist stop is La Fortaleza, which takes the cake as the oldest governor’s mansion on U.S. soil. Nearby is the Cathedral of San Juan, where visitors can pay their respects at the grave of the island’s first governor, Ponce de Leon. San Juan, Puerto Rico is a very popular, affordable cruise destination, and almost every cruise line offers an affordable package that includes a stop in the beautiful city.
